Life is frequently measured by benchmarks that help remind us of progress. Unfortunately, we oftentimes do not take the time to celebrate these benchmarks though. If you were lucky enough to join us in Toronto, Congratulations! I believe you were part of history in the making. By all measures and expectations, the meeting was an unqualified success. The 3rd International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health was actually the first where ISPAH was an “official” organization. The traction we have gained since the first International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health in Atlanta is measureable and A very public THANK YOU to the Toronto Organizing Committee, led by Dr. Barry McPherson, for all their hard work.
More than 1,200 delegates from nearly 50 countries were with us in Toronto. The Toronto Charter for Physical Activity, led by the GAPA, The Advocacy Council of ISPAH, played a critical role at the Congress. The Charter is a Call to Action for countries around the world to make physical activity a priority for all. I firmly believe that The Toronto Charter will be of great help as we move forward. More information on the Toronto Charter can be found at the GAPA website.
It is gratifying to see such progress on the global level in physical activity and health. The zealous pursuit of new research and practice in our field should be our first priority. ISPAH is helping to make this a priority across the world. Please join us!
