Policy Brief and Policy Change Work Group
BACKGROUND: Researchers in public health, transportation and planning have produced evidence on environmental attributes that may enhance people’s health through encouraging active living. However, evidence from such research is often not used in the process of environmental and planning decision making. Researchers and advocacy groups need to work together to transfer knowledge to key people in the decision making process.
AIMS: to understand how researchers and advocacy groups use research evidence to inform policy and practice
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES:
1. To collect successful cases where researchers and advocacy groups worked together to influence policy
2. From such examples, to identify effective format or mechanism that worked well in influencing policy makers
3. To produce some guidelines for researchers who want to work with advocate groups to disseminate evidence
4. To put together a summary of international evidence on built environment and physical activity
