Description

Headshot, Dr Jacqueline Mair,
Outgoing Governance Lead, 2020-2022

“I’ve been involved with ISPAH since 2015, initially as a member of the Communications Committee, then as Chair of the Communications Committee between 2018-2020 and Governance Director from 2020-2022. It’s been an amazing few years and I’m so grateful to have been a part of the society as it has gone from strength to strength. As Governance Director I have been responsible for ensuring the society operates appropriately and implementing processes that make the society function more effectively. It’s an important role! But I’ve enjoyed every minute and I will be sad to step down in October. If you’d like to work with physical activity leaders (and really great people!) from around the world, you have a keen attention to detail, and you want to be instrumental in helping the society continue to grow, then this Board position could be the role for you!”

Expected time commitment:

1-2 hours per week

Description:

The focus of this role is to ensure the proper operation of the society in line with its policies and procedures. For example, ensuring that board procedures are complied with, facilitating board and committee member inductions, and helping the board and its committees to function efficiently. Many good systems are already in place and an on-boarding phase is planned to give the successful candidate a chance to get to know the Board and the role.

Roles:

  • Keeping up to date records of the Board structure and membership
  • Overseeing, with assistance from the Secretariat, all Board Members’ onboarding and training
  • Keeping up to date records of each Board member’s roles and responsibilities
  • Periodically reviewing and drafting amendments to the ISPAH By-laws
  • Developing and/or maintaining Society policies, including but not limited to:
  • Complaints Policy
  • Communications Policy
  • Data Management Policy
  • Partnership and Sponsorship Policy
  • In collaboration with the Communications Committee, monitoring proper use of the ISPAH logo and associated Brand Guidelines
  • Reviewing the congress “Memorandum of Understanding” on an annual basis, in partnership with the Events Lead, to ensure it matches the current ISPAH policies and By-laws
  • Keeping up-to-date records of ISPAH endorsed courses
  • Coordinate with the IT Systems Director and the Communications Committee to ensure the website is up to date and key governance news is communicated via the web and social media
  • Overseeing appropriate archiving of ISPAH documents, agendas and minutes of Board meetings

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Some prior knowledge on how ISPAH operates is desirable, but not essential.
